Verse to Ponder 1/28/26 (Luke 23:26-56)
In the latter part of Luke 23, Jesus is led to be crucified at Calvary being followed by a great company of people and women which bewailed and lamented (mourn) Jesus. There was also two others led with Jesus to be put to death. Verse 33 says, “And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.” (this is the verse I am pondering on). Jesus commends His Spirit unto God, the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God and said, “Certainly this was a righteous man.” All His acquaintances and the women stood afar off, beholding these things. Joseph of Arimathaea ( a counsellor, good and just) went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus, took His body down, wrapped it in linen, laid His body in a sepulchre, hewn in stone, where never man before was laid. Here are a few thoughts I was thinking of that happened at Calvary. (1) It was fulfillment of the scriptures that we read in Isaiah 53:12 - …: “and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” (2) We find Love “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”– Romans 5:8 (3) We find Forgiveness – one of the malefactors asked the Lord remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom and Jesus said, “To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” (4) We find a tomb where Jesus is laid that in three days will be empty – (In Chapter 24 ) Romans 10:9 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” As some of the Older preachers that I have heard most of my life would say, and I believe, Jesus is still in the saving business. God Bless each one of you today my Friends.
